Scripture Union Daily Guide 9th September 2020 – The Blessing Of Fellowship And Unity
TODAY’S TOPIC: THE BLESSING OF FELLOWSHIP AND UNITY
The blessing of fellowship and unity
My dear heavenly Father, as I study your word, let it be a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Key Verse: Psalm 133:1–3
1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brethren to dwell together in unity!
2 It is like the precious oil upon the head,
Running down on the beard,
The beard of Aaron,
Running down on the edge of his garments.
3 It is like the dew of Hermon,
Descending upon the mountains of Zion;
For there the Lord commanded the blessing—
• What is God revealing to me in this passage?
Living together in unity means walking, working, talking, and generally doing things together in harmony, regardless of diversity of opinions. What are the benefits of unity according to v.1?
Harmonious and humble living is an ingredient of love (see Romans 12:16). Unity is applicable to every level of human habitation such as the nuclear and extended families; the Church, fellowships and communities.
God’s word does not assume that it is easy to live in unity. Read Romans 12:18. This calls for individual resolve and commitment for unity. Are you willing to take this route? Oil is used for different purposes. For Aaron and other priests, the anointing oil was a symbol of God’s blessing for their priestly calling.
Jesus was anointed with a fragrantly perfumed ointment that the house was filled with fragrance, which he appreciated, (John 12:1–3). Such ought to be the loveliness of family fellowship in our homes, offices, church and society.
⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
• Reflection: “As much as lieth in your hand, live at peace with all men.”
• God make my life to be like the special oil in pointing people to Christ and like the dew of Hermon in refreshing those around me.
• Pray that God will help you to have a deeper love for others, like Jesus who so loved us and gave His life for us.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with John 8:36
