TOPIC: GOD’S WORD: OUR LIGHT AND LAMP

Scripture: Psalm 119:97-120

Reflection:
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

MESSAGE: Scripture Union Daily Guide 16th November 2020

Feeding on God’s word daily, like eating a balanced diet, results in a transformed life. Look at vv. 97–104 and note the positive things that happen to the Psalmist because he meditates on God’s laws not once a week or once a day but ‘all day long’.

Note also the actions that follow his meditation on God’s word. Our daily Personal Quiet Time has no value unless we obey and do what the word ministers to us (James 1:22–25; Joshua 1:8). The word of God, like a torch light, shows us the way to go and helps us to critically examine our lives to ensure we are in the right (v.105).

Observe, however, that faithfulness to God and his word does not insulate us from unpleasant experiences (vv. 107, 110); but trials should never drive us away from God. The resolute determination to be true to God, whatever the situation, should be the inner desire of all Christians.

The wonderful thing is that the more we seek to know, love and praise him, the more he reveals himself to us (see Jeremiah 29:13). Note the resolve of the psalmist in v.113. What problem would evil doers cause to his learning and understanding of God’s word (v.115)?

⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Practice/Word Application:
• And So: Those who meditate on God’s word discover the promises of God which help to sustain them (v.116).

Prayer:
• Make Psalm 119:11 your prayer today and make sure you follow what it says.
• Pray for the conversion of unbelieving members of your family and extended family. Pray that God will send them witnesses they can believe.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with 2 Timothy 4:18

Read The Bible In One Year: 1 Chron. 19–21; Luke 2:25–52
