Scripture Union Daily Guide 5th January 2021 – The Law For Today
You are reading Scripture Union Daily Guide Devotional for Today Tuesday 5th January 2021. Be blessed and inspired by today’s reading. God bless you!
TOPIC: THE LAW FOR TODAY
Opening Prayer: Lord, let the light of your word shine into my life as I meditate on your word.
Scripture: Matthew 5:13-26
Question(s) for Reflection:
• Is there any command for me to obey?
TODAY’S OUTLINE: In Ephesians 2:15, we read that Jesus Christ abolished the law and in Romans 6:14, Apostle Paul says we are not under the Law but under grace. What are your thoughts about these two Bible passages in relation to our reading today? The fact is that there are two aspects to the Law. There is the moral law, which is universal and unending.
This includes the Ten Commandments. There is also the civil and religious law which applied only to Israel as a nation and was temporary. Our passage today refers to the former while Apostle Paul’s comments are about the latter. Take another look at vs.13-14. Jesus Christ says that it is by our fruit that people will recognise that we belong to Him.
As salt, we are to change the flavour of this sad world, and as light we are to brighten its darkness. We cannot do these in our own wisdom or power, but we depend on the Holy Spirit to enable us to be true to the Lord day by day.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
• So what? Can you think of any darkness into which God is asking you to shine His light today?
• Thank you, Lord, that you first shine in me so I can shine your light to the world.
• Praise God for the grace that made you a Christian and the empowerment to be a faithful witness.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Isaiah 65:24 – Even before they call, I will answer, and while they are still speaking, I will hear.
Bible In One Year: Gen. 13-15; Rom. 5
