Anglican Daily Fountain 1st March 2024 (Devotional Today)

Welcome to Today’s Daily Fountain Devotional of the Anglican Church of Nigeria. Daily Fountain is a daily reading devotional for all Anglicans and Non-Anglicans to read, study, share and discuss the Word of God on a daily basis.

TOPIC: TURNING THE TABLE AGAINST THE CONSPIRATORS

TEXT: Psalm 64: 1-10(KJV)
64:1. Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
64:2. Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity:
64:3. Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words:
64:4. That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.
64:5. They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them?

64:6. They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep.
64:7. But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded.
64:8. So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away.
64:9. And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing.
64:10. The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.

Anglican Daily Fountain 1st March 2024 STUDY:

This Psalm is one of the prayers of David crying to God for judgment on the enemies of the righteous. It is a prayer for deliverance from cunning and malicious enemies, with an assurance that they will be destroyed and this will bring honour to God and give joy to the righteous. The whole of Psalm 64 has references to David’s enemies who were persecuting, slandering, and giving him trouble.

He prayed to God to preserve him from all their malicious designs (Psa. 64:1-2); he described their character as men marked for destruction by their wickedness (Psa. 64:3-6) and prophesied the destruction of the wicked which would showcase the glory of God and give courage to all His people(Psa.64:7-10).

The effect of the old enmity between man and Satan still lingers on today (Gen.3: 15) but thank God for the assured victory for a child of God-the God of Peace will soon crush Satan under your feet (Rom. 16: 20). Thus, we can tun the table on Satan and all our enemies only by becoming God’s children. The Psalmist has outlined the steps to salvation in Christ Jesus, which is free. When we cry unto God, then our enemies shall turn back; this we know, for God is for us (Psa.56: 9).

PRAYER: Thank you Father for your sure deliverance from the malicious attacks of the enemy.
