Welcome to Today’s Daily Fountain Devotional of the Anglican Church of Nigeria. Daily Fountain is a daily reading devotional for all Anglicans and Non-Anglicans to read, study, share and discuss the Word of God on a daily basis.

TOPIC: A PRAYER OF DAVID

TEXT: Psalm 61: 1-8(KJV)
61:1. Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.
61:2. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
61:3. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.
61:4. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.
61:5. For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name.
61:6. Thou wilt prolong the king’s life: and his years as many generations.
61:7. He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.
61:8. So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.

Anglican Daily Fountain 27th February 2024 STUDY:

In this Psalm, David prays and cries to God to attend to his prayer. Being overwhelmed, he cries that he will be led into God’s presence. He confesses that God is his shelter, his strong tower, that he will dwell in God’s tabernacle forever, and that he will trust in Him. He reminds God that He has given him a good heritage, long life, and has been preserved with mercy and truth. Therefore, he promises to praise His name and fulfil his vows to the Lord.

Although David was king over Israel and Judah, he brought out time to pray to God. In fact, he praised God seven times every day (Psa.119: 164). No wonder he is said to be a man after God’s heart. Christians must form the habit of praying to God at all times, and not only when there is a problem. Jesus taught that men should pray always without fainting (Luke 18: 1). How is your prayer life? Is there still fire at your prayer altar? You can do like David and cry unto the Lord right now. Tell Him how you feel. Be open to Him and He will meet you at the point of your need.

PRAYER: Grant me grace, O Lord, to pray always in Jesus’ name. Amen.
