Welcome to Today’s Daily Fountain Devotional of the Anglican Church of Nigeria. Daily Fountain is a daily reading devotional for all Anglicans and Non-Anglicans to read, study, share and discuss the Word of God on a daily basis.

TOPIC: AVOID SIN

TEXT: John 5: 10-16(KJV)
5:10. The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.
5:11. He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
5:12. Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?
5:13. And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.

5:14. Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
5:15. The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.
5:16. And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.

Anglican Daily Fountain 3rd February 2024 STUDY:

The man who was healed by Jesus was asked by the Jews why he was carrying his bed on the Sabbath day. His response was that the man who healed him told him to do so. When the Jews inquired of the identity of his healer, he could not answer. Thereafter, Jesus saw him in the temple and advised him to avoid sin. When the man informed the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him, they wanted to kill Jesus because He had healed someone on the Sabbath day.

The advice of Jesus to the healed man seems to suggest that his sickness was caused by sin. Sin does not only cause sickness but leads to death (Rom. 6: 23). Some girls have died because of the sin of abortion after they indulged in illicit sex. People who indulge in immorality reap sexual diseases. Are you living in bondage of sin such as lying, stealing, alcoholism, fornication, adultery, masturbation, cheating, examination malpractice, bribery and corruption? Jesus advises you to avoid sin from today. Repent of your sin and confess them to God right now, for forgiveness and for your salvation (2Cor. 6: 2). Stop sin before it stops you!

PRAYER: Father in Heaven, search my heart and help me to confess and avoid sin in Jesus’ name.
