Daily Guide 14th September 2022 | Scripture Union

Read and Meditate on Today’s  Scripture Union Daily Guide for Wednesday 14 September 2022. May the Lord bless you through His Word, Amen!

SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE DEVOTIONAL 14TH SEPTEMBER 2022

Topic: Be patient: God still rules!

Opening Prayer: May the meditation of my heart be acceptable unto you, O Lord as I read from your word.

Scripture: Habakkuk 2:1‐20

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any command for me to obey?

Notice what God commands Habakkuk to do (vs.3‐4). When we ask God our toughest questions, like Habakkuk, we must be ready also to obey His challenging assignment: to wait for His answer (v.3). Observe that God agreed with Habakkuk’s moral estimate of the Babylonians (vs.4‐5) and answered his second question – the punisher will be punished.

God pronounced five woes on the Babylonians. Read vs.6, 9, 12, 15 &19 again and identify the woes and the reason for each. Do you see any similarity with what our leaders in Africa are doing? This teaches us that a kingdom built on bloodshed, violence, oppression and idolatry cannot endure. All oppressive and exploitative leaders will be judged in due course.

But while we wait for God to work out His plan, we must exercise patience and steadfast faith (v.4; James 5:7‐11), leaving matters in His hands. God will reward our patience. It may not be as soon as we expect, however, He will not be late either. No matter what may happen in this world, God still rules (v.20)! All things are working for our good and for His honour.

Practice/Word Application
Thought: Patience is a virtue that carries a lot of ‘wait’ (Habakkuk 2:20; Psalm 46:10). Pray for God’s help to experience this virtue in your life daily.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Father, increase my faith and let my patience and waiting on you not frustrated.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with
Luke 1:37 ‐ 38; Ezekiel 46‐48
