Topic: The Reign of Christ
Opening Prayer: I open my heart to meditate on your word, teach me your ways oh Lord.
Scripture: Revelation 11:1‐19
Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any warning for me to heed?
Persecution is a prevalent feature of the end times, but God will protect the believers. The temple symbolises the Church (v.1). Our location (inside or outside the Temple) is very important. To be inside is to be in Christ for spiritual protection of true believers. Outside the Temple are unbelievers for great suffering. Where will you be? What will determine the place a person will be is whether they believe in Christ now or not.
The two witnesses (vs.3‐6), possibly God’s mighty prophets ‐ Moses and Elijah (Matthew 17:1‐7), represent believers throughout all ages who carry out their witness in the evil world where there is rebellion and persecution. The believers are called to participate actively in God’s ministry as prophets (v.6) despite the suffering that they could go through.
Whatever happens, the evil one cannot overcome Jesus Christ and His true witnesses (v.11). Truth never dies, and the threat of death has never stopped evangelism. Note that evil will reign outside the Temple for 42 months; that means it will not be forever (v.2). Satan and his agent will also wreck havoc but only for a time (vs.7‐11). We get a glimpse of worship in heaven (vs.15‐19). What elements of worship do you see in this passage and what can you learn from this?
