Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 27 November 2023

This chapter reminds us of how great God’s power is to save His own from the enemy. Our God is indeed stronger than any kind of force that may come against His people today. Look at the striking contrast between the Egyptians and God in v.3. Like the people of Israel, do we put our trust in humans, in godfathers or in the unseen Almighty God?

What important lessons are we to note again in v.5? So great is our God that we would be foolish not to rely on Him alone for deliverance in times of trouble. Read vs.6-9 again and notice what the Lord demands of His people (and us). God will not tolerate any form of competition. Then, see how the Lord intends to deal with the Assyrians, the cause of their fear and vacillation (see 2 Kings 19:32-36). The hymn writer, George Duffield Jr, is right, ‘The arm of flesh will fail you, you dare not trust your own’. Only the Lord Jesus never fails.

Practice/Word Application
And so: “The Lord is my Rock and my Fortress and my deliverer… I will call upon the Lord…, so shall I be saved from my enemies” (Psalm 18:2,3).
