Scripture Union Daily Guide 1 April 2022 Devotional | Outline

Compare and contrast the sons of Adam, Cain and Abel (vs.1‐5). What lessons can we draw from vs.3‐5? In the world that we live in today, especially in many parts of Africa, the church often depends on outside support to carry out her God‐given ministry! It is as if the desire and the ability to give to God is not part of us. Save a few nations, just look at the scarcity of our church’s involvement in mission work, whether at home or in other countries.

If the first offspring of the human race participated in offering or giving to God, what does this say to us? The tragedy that we encounter in today’s reading is that the elder brother decides to take the life of the younger brother (v.8). Why did Cain do that? From vs.6‐7 what should he have done? We see the same anger and jealousy today in families, within the society and between nations. Like Cain, we hardly seek to please God (Romans 3:10‐12, 23).

Cain should have accepted his inappropriate giving, repent, change and God would have accepted him, rather than commit murder.

Practice/Word Application
So What? Like Cain we deserve punishment (vs.10‐14). God continued to love Cain (vs.15‐16) even though his heart remained evil. People are born with hearts like that of Cain. Pray that God will convict our hearts to know the truth, so we do not perish.

Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• God Almighty, create in me a repentant heart and help me to be faithful to you in every situation.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Jeremiah 1:7; Deuteronomy 16, 17, Acts 24
