TEXT: NUMBERS 16:36-40

Key Verse: “To be a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses” – Numbers 16:40

OUTLINE: DCLM DAILY MANNA 17TH FEBRUARY 2021 WEDNESDAY DEVOTIONAL

A memorial is a monument set up for the purpose of remembering an important event or personality. The Lincoln Memorial, a monument dedicated to United States President Abraham Lincoln stands in Potomac Park in Washington, D.C. The structure was inspired by classical Greek architecture and it houses a grand marble of Lincoln by Daniel French. Some memorials are of good people who contributed to the greatness of their nations, while others are for history.

From our text, God commanded Moses to instruct Eleazar the son of Aaron to make broad plates for the covering of the altar from the censers of the rebellious Korah and his company as a memorial that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron come near to offer incense before the Lord. Korah and 250 princes had challenged the priesthood of Aaron and made censers to offer incense contrary to the choice of God.

They were all swallowed by the earth and consumed by fire from the Lord (Numbers 16:31-35). These rebels suffered this severe punishment to serve as a lesson to others and stop the possible tide of rebellion, which might affect the congregation if no action was taken. To be part of rebellion against God’s priests and appointed leaders in the church is to be guilty of high treason against Him, taking advantage of His love to deny His premium for holiness.

God says, “Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm” (Psalm 105:15). There are many lessons here, among them, we should not be position seekers in the house of God. Also, we should run away from sin and never be part of rebellion against His ordained ministers. Remember God sees and knows all, even the thoughts of our hearts. Therefore, we must learn to deal with His ministers in reverence.

Thought For Today: It is treasonable to join rebels in the house of God.
