ANCHOR SCRIPTURE(S): DANIEL 6:1-3
MESSAGE TOPIC: DEFINING EXCELLENCE (1-3) By Dr Paul Enenche
SERVICE OBJECTIVE(S):
1. Understanding the necessity of excellence
2. Understanding the meaning of excellence
3. Understanding the departments of excellence
THE NECESSITY OF EXCELLENCE:
1. Excellence is the inheritance of God’s people (Deut. 28:1-2; Isa. 2:1-2; 1Pet. 2:9)
Excellence is a matter of inheritance
Excellence is our privilege under God
Whatever the church does is designed to be better than what the world does
Church institutions and church personalities are designed to take the top places in the world
When the topmost person in a certain field is not a child of God, it is because the child of God who should take that spot has not yet woken up
Excellence is our portion and possession under God
Excellence is our birthright in God
2. Excellence is a channel of worship and glory for the King of kings (1Kings 10:4-5,9; Matt. 5:16; 1Pet. 2:9)
There is a glory and an honour that will come to God when you are outstanding in what you do
Excellence is not just a mode of life, it is a mode of worship
3. Excellence is a tool for the command of audience in evangelism (Isa. 60:1-4; 2:2; 1Kings 10:5-6,24-25; 2Chron. 9:23)
Your excellence is more evangelistic than your utterance; your success is more evangelistic than your statement
There are people who will follow you to church because you beat them hands down and they want to find out your secret
Your excellence compels the flow of nations.

‘In the name of Jesus, the excellence of God manifested through my life shall drag the multitudes to God.’
People who will not hearken to your utterance will hearken to your excellence
People look for you when what you do is excellent
Make it easy for people to desire to know your God by doing better than them in what you all are doing
WHAT IS EXCELLENCE?
1. Excellence is the quality of being outstanding or extremely good – Oxford Dictionary of English
2. Excellence is the realm of mastery or expertise
3. Excellence is the realm of high quality, merit and existence, far beyond average
4. Excellence is the realm of supremacy, pre-eminence or transcendence
5. Excellence is the realm of worth and value; it is aversion for inferiority and average
6. Excellence is the deployment of brilliance and skill
It is the refusal to function mindlessly and thoughtlessly; excellence is the combination of thought and effort to produce the desired result
WHAT ARE THE DEPARTMENTS/DIMENSIONS OF EXCELLENCE?
1. Standards maintenance (Gen. 6:14-16; Ex. 25:9, 40; Num. 8:4; 1Chron. 28:11)
It is critical to know that the maintenance of standard is a major bedrock of excellence; nothing is excellent until standards are maintained
SCRIPTURAL EXAMPLES OF EXCELLENCE THROUGH STANDARDS MAINTENANCE:
1a. God gave specific standards and measurements for the building of the ark of Noah (Gen. 6:14-16)
1b. God gave specific standards and measurements to Moses in the building of the tabernacle in the wilderness (Ex. 25:9, 40; Num. 8:4)
God is the most excellent God in working because He is a God of standards, specifications and specifics
1c. David gave Solomon the pattern of the temple that he received by the Spirit (1Chron. 28:11-13)
KEY THOUGHTS ON STANDARDS MAINTENANCE:
i. Where the pattern of God is followed, the glory of God flows
ii. Nothing stands out without standards (Isa. 60:1)
It takes standards to stand out
Nothing can be outstanding without standards
iii. Those who live anyhow can’t get anywhere in life
Nobody gets anywhere who does things anyhow
You may fight battles with weapons but you win with wisdom
If your life must have a future, it must have structure.
Nothing can be dynamic until someone is strategic
2. Attention to details (2Kings 5:10-14; Gen. 22:1-2, 11-14; John 6:12-13)
Attention to details is central to excellence
SCRIPTURAL EXAMPLES OF EXCELLENCE THROUGH ATTENTION TO DETAILS:
2a. Attention to details was responsible for the cleansing and healing of Naaman the Syrian (2Kings 5:10-14)
2b. It was attention to details that made Abraham not to erroneously sacrifice his son Isaac (Gen. 22:1-2, 11-14)
2c. Attention to details led to the explosion in the supply miracle in the multiplication of five loaves and two fishes (John 6:12-13)
KEY THOUGHTS ABOUT ATTENTION TO DETAILS:
i. Progress is detained where details are ignored
ii. Potentials are aborted where details are evaded
iii. Attention to details is key to distinction in destiny
iv. The difference between success and failure is in details
v. Major results are the products of minor details
3. Addiction to order and beauty
Anywhere there is excellence, the system is both orderly and beautiful
SCRIPTURAL EXAMPLES OF EXCELLENCE THROUGH ORDER & BEAUTY:
3a. The garment of the high priest in the Old Testament was made for beauty and for glory (Ex. 28:2)
3b. The temple of Solomon was built in magnificence for fame and glory (1Chron. 22:5)
3c. The wood of the altar was placed in order before Elijah could call down fire (1Kings 18:32-33)
KEY THOUGHTS ON ADDICTION TO ORDER & BEAUTY:
i. Order is the first principle of creation (Gen. 1:1-10)
If you want your life to work order it; if you want your business, marriage or ministry to work, order them!
Nothing functions in creation without order
ii. Order is the foundation for beauty which is the signature of excellence
iii. Order is the platform for wonder
God performs wonders when people present order
CONCLUSION:
1. Excellence does not happen by chance, it happens by choice (Isa. 60:1).
Until you make the choice, you don’t have the chance.
2. Excellence is license to prominence (Dan. 6:3; Isa. 2:2)
When you excel, you license God to take you higher
PRAYERS
Father, thank You for Your Word to us today. To You be all the glory, in Jesus’ Name.
Father, I am stepping into the journey of excellence; I am going up and no devil can take me down, in Jesus’ Name.
Father, I receive the grace to excel, in Jesus’ Name.
PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS:
– What the devil thought will finish you is what God will use to polish you!
– Joy and celebration shall never depart from your house!
– Every evil arrow returns back to hell now!
– Every mountain in your life that came with you today is dissolving now!
– Everything the devil took from your life is returned back now!
– I decree all round fruitfulness! Anywhere there is dryness around your life, I decree it is over!
– Systems are put under pressure to release to you all that is yours!
– This week you shall testify!
– Every deposit in your body that is not of God is flushed out now!
