TOPIC: JESUS: OUR GOOD SHEPHERD
Fire Scripture: John 10:1-18
MFM Devotional 7 November 2021 | Sunday Message
Jesus describes His followers as sheep. The sheep is the meekest and lowliest animal on earth. The sheep symbolises humility. Every flock of sheep has a shepherd. The shepherd is the one that leads the sheep. He understands their language, emotions and thoughts and the sheep know their shepherd and they obey him (John 10:4). Believers and followers of Christ are sheep and Jesus is their Good Shepherd. Just as the shepherd charts the course for the sheep, Jesus came to show us the way and to lead us to the Father through righteousness (John10:3-4).
The scripture tells us that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and no man can come to the Father except through Him, our Good Shepherd (John 14:6). The shepherd protects the interest of the sheep and risks his life for them. John 10:11 tells us that Jesus is the Good Shepherd who came to give His life for us. Jesus gave His life freely and willingly for us, to save our lives and to deliver our souls from perdition (John 10:15-18). John the Baptist referred to Him as the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world (John 1:29). Jesus is therefore the sacrificial Lamb of God for the redemption of our sins.

As sheep, we have a duty to humble ourselves before our Shepherd who also subjected Himself to the will of the Father by becoming a lamb. He did not only come as a shepherd, He also came as a sheep before the Father. Acts 8:32 tells us He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearers, so opened he not his mouth. He is therefore a perfect Shepherd, having put on the form of a sheep before becoming a shepherd, and by so doing, He understands the sheep He was called to lead.

John 10:11 – “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.”

1. Father, give me the spirit of a shepherd, in the name of Jesus.
2. I will not mislead the sheep under my care, in the name of Jesus.
3. I refuse to be a rebellious sheep, in the name of Jesus.

4. My ears shall not be deaf to the voice of the Lord Jesus, in the name of Jesus.
5. Spirit of obedience, baptise me, in the name of Jesus.
6. I receive the hunger and thirst to fulfil the will of the Father, in the name of Jesus.
