TOPIC: THE POWER OF PRAISE AND WORSHIP (1)

TEXT: PSALM 22:3; 47:1; 48:1-2; 66:8; 67:3-5; 109:164.

“Let EVERYTHING that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord. Ps 150:6

The Present world has known progress in almost every facet of human endeavour. They have literally touched the world through the nuclear power. The memories of the atomic bomb that brought the city of Hiroshima down has remained evergreen in the memory of accomplishment in the war front.

Today, the world can boast of sophisticated nuclear weapons, war jets, drones, intercontinental ballistic missiles, dynamites, etc. all of which tend to give them a false sense of security and unsubstantiated hope that if they go to war, they can surely make it going by their artillery.

Note. Despite all these and how seemingly prepared the world appears to be, yet Covid-19 silenced even the acclaimed world powers.

The weapon of PRAISE and WORSHIP is certainly alien to the military armoury and may even sound strange to most of them. However, more than any dynamite and any of the destructive weapons mentioned above, is the weapon of PRAISE and WORSHIP.

Sadly too, the modern day church has paid so much attention to warfare through prayers, intercession, supplication and only succeeded in paying lip service to the power embedded in praise. We have hosted conferences on Prayers, held seminars on the word, organized retreats on faith.

As comely as these are, beyond, these, our fathers of faith found a paradigm shift in praise and worship as a sustainable and unbeatable weapon of destruction, instrument of victory and a valid channel for easy access to the throne of Grace, where are they sweet hymns composed in the 15th through to the 19th century?

Can these hymns be compared with the roadside songs we sing today that only seem to suggest it is a Christian song when we hear the mention of the name of Jesus? Ah! Our Fathers touched God through Praise and we will.

POWER OF PRAISE AND WORSHIP
i. It is used as a veritable tool to access any locked gate, break prison chains and gain access into God’s court. Ps100:1-4; Acts 16:25-37;

ii. It is a utility asset that completely gives to God the HONOUR due Him. It is amazing to mention here that sometimes, we stylishly complain, murmur and even grumble in the course of prayers but praise and worship blocks every avenue of self being portrayed and creates an atmosphere for complete adoration, HONOUR and worship of God. Ps 9:1; 26:1; 86:12;

iii. It is a non-conventional weapon that God uses as part of His strategy in combating war. Joshua 6:12-20; Heb. 11:30.

iv. It gives a swift transition from the natural man (weighed down by circumstances) into the spirit filled man. Elisha was obviously overwhelmed and weighed down by the unscrupulous activities of king Jehoram (Ahab’s son) who joined affinity with Jehoshaphat and hence couldn’t prophesy until the services of praise and worship leader (minstrel) was requested to clear the atmosphere. 2 Kings 3:1-16, 18.

v. One of the reasons that accounts for the success David recorded in ministry was his life of praise.
