Scripture Union Daily Guide 10th February 2024 || Truth Will Set You Free

Scripture Union Daily Guide 10 February 2024 (Saturday)

Do You Know That? Daily Guide Reading is published by Scripture Union Press & Books Ltd, an arm of Scripture Union Nigeria. Daily Guide is a true nondenominational, interdenominational Christian Bible engagement/reading aid – meditate on the Bible without denominational colorations. May the Lord bless you as you study!

TODAY’S TOPIC: TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE

Opening Prayer: Lord, I pray that you lead me into your truth as I meditate on your word in Jesus name.

SCRIPTURE: JOHN 8:31-47

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Q3: Is there any command for me to obey?
• Q4: Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?

Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 10 February 2024

First, Jesus emphasises what true discipleship means (v.31). Meditate on what it means to hold on to the teachings of Jesus. It is one thing to claim to be a child of God, and another to be truly His child. The Jews thought being physical descendants of Abraham frees them from enslavement.

Unfortunately, they did not know that they were in a terrible form of bondage of ignorance, error, sin, and superstition (v.34). Notice Christ’s response and challenge in vs.34&39 and His offer (v.36). Knowledge of, and adherence to the truth protects us from enslavement to sin. Only Jesus can give us true freedom.

Many in our world today are still living in similar bondage because the truth that could set them free is far from them. For us to be set free from the bondage we are in, we need Jesus in our lives. He is the one who will teach us the truth that will set us free.
Note how the argument shifted from Abraham to God (vs.41-42). We all have earthly fathers but we each must choose our eternal father: God or the Devil. It is up to us!

Practice/Word Application
Thought: Are you a slave or a son? It depends on who your father is.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
Dear Lord, teach me your truth so I can live my life in the freedom that you provide.
Prayer for the week
• Thank God for the salvation of our souls. • Pray that God’s saving grace will locate our loved ones, family, friends and colleagues. • Take authority over the god of this world preventing them from seeing and knowing the truth.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Isaiah 12:2
“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.”
