SCRIPTURE: JOHN 12:12-19
Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 2 March 2024
The spontaneous acclamation and praise by the crowd, who were holding palm branches and the shouting of “Hosanna” (meaning “please save” or “save now”) indicates that they recognized Jesus as the long-awaited Messiah and the King of Israel (vs.12-13; cf. John 6:14-15). By riding on a young donkey (vs.14-15), Jesus fulfilled an Old Testament Messianic prophecy and affirmed that He is the King (cf. Zechariah. 9:9). However, His kingship is that of peace (Isaiah 9:6-7).
What good lesson can we learn from the crowd who saw Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead (v.17)? If we are saved, it is obligatory for us to tell others of Christ’s love. That is the reason for our living (Acts 1:8).
The Pharisees were intimidated by the crowd and concluded that, “the whole world has gone after him” (v.19). Unfortunately, most of these people do not understand the mission of Christ as the Saviour of their souls. V.17 is a reminder that, no matter how long we have been following the Lord, we still need the Holy Spirit to help us see Him in the scripture as we study it.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
Thank you, Lord, for saving my soul. Help me to be a true witness for you.
Prayer for the week
• Pray for brethren and the church who are facing persecution of their faith, that God will strengthen them • Ask that they will not fail or falter and give in to the pressure • Pray that the Holy Spirit will constantly stand by them and quicken them.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Malachi 3:16
“Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.”
