Vs.23-24 – Paul does not hide the reason for his inability to fulfil his promise to visit the church in Corinth as he had promised. He spoke the truth in love. What was Paul’s primary concern here? What he wants to see is the members growing in maturity. The elements of that maturity are joy, faith, and stability.
Paul did not want to lord it over the church in Corinth, as we see some leaders do in contemporary times. What would you expect to see in how a father relates to his children, even when they have gone wayward? 2 Corinthians 2:1-4 provides commendable insights. By all means, discipline, but do it in love with the ultimate objective of shaping your wards for good and saving them from separation from God. This was Paul’s objective. See James 5:19-20. How do you treat your erring children, church, and fellowship members? Never forget that their eternal fate is at stake.

Closing Prayer
Father, my desire is for all over whom I exercise authority to remain steadfast in their faith life. Give me wisdom in dealing with cases of waywardness.
