Scripture Union Daily Guide 28 March 2024 – Condemned For No Just Cause
Daily Guide Devotional For Today 28th March 2024 (Thursday)
Do You Know That? Daily Guide Reading is published by Scripture Union Press & Books Ltd, an arm of Scripture Union Nigeria. Daily Guide is a true nondenominational, interdenominational Christian Bible engagement/reading aid – meditate on the Bible without denominational colorations. May the Lord bless you as you study!
TODAY’S TOPIC: CONDEMNED FOR NO JUST CAUSE
OPENING PRAYER: My dear heavenly Father, as I study your word, let it be a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
SCRIPTURE: JOHN 19:1-16
Question(s) for Reflection
• Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 28 March 2024
Observe the mockery to which our Lord Jesus was subjected in the hand of ordinary men (vs.1-5). Though, guiltless, He went through all of these because of our sins.
Also note the inconsistent attitude of Pilate in this whole episode. He knew that Jesus was accused falsely by the Jews, yet he lacked the will power to do the needful. Why was Pilate not able to speak and stand for the truth (vs.12-16)? Leadership requires courage. Scripture Union Daily Guide 28 March 2024
A leader who is not courageous cannot be fair and just. The fear of men and selfish political interests will mar our sense of justice. Many innocent people are in our prisons because some judicial officers did not want to lose their jobs and lacked the courage to stand for the truth. Similarly, we see blatant miscarriage of justice in our churches and Christian organisations. People are wrongfully punished without fair hearing.
What is the significance of vs.6-11 to our salvation? Jesus died willingly, for our sins, in fulfilment of God’s purpose for His life (Matthew 16:21; Philippians 2:5-11). What a sacrifice to save mankind!
Practice/Word Application
And so? To be a Christlike leader, you must be willing to bear persecution for the sake of righteousness (Matthew 5:11-12).
