Today’s Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 30 December 2022

David here continues to reflect on the way of the wicked as opposed to the attitude of the righteous towards God. Often, when we see the wicked succeed, we struggle and wonder why God allows such injustice. We ask, how long things will go on like this and why does the Lord fail to stop them? What is David’s response to that in vs.2,8‐9?

In today’s world, where the focus is on money and power, we should guard ourselves against the accumulation of riches. “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth” (Matthew 6:19‐20), but on the contrary, we should, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness” (Matthew 6:33). God promises to reward us if we delight and trust in Him (v.4). Delighting in the Lord and making Him our ultimate satisfaction leads to peace and fulfilment and is the key to a happy and satisfying (satisfied) life.

The Lord protects and upholds the righteous while He thwarts the intents of the wicked (vs.12‐13). We see the ultimate fate of the wicked: their evil schemes against the righteous will turn back on (against) them (vs.14‐15) and in the end, they will perish.
