Daily Guide Devotional For Today 31st March 2024 (Sunday)

Do You Know That? Daily Guide Reading is published by Scripture Union Press & Books Ltd, an arm of Scripture Union Nigeria. Daily Guide is a true nondenominational, interdenominational Christian Bible engagement/reading aid – meditate on the Bible without denominational colorations. May the Lord bless you as you study!

OPENING PRAYER: Oh Lord, grant me divine guidance as I read and meditate on your word in Jesus name.
Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Read v.1 again and compare with Mark 16:1-3 to see the dilemma Mary and the other women were facing. Were they not determined, the fear of the heavy stone that would stand in their way would have grounded them and prevented them from going to the tomb. Often, we allow fear of the unknown to prevent us from doing that which God’s Spirit urges us to do. And like many fears, when we move forward, we find that the mountain we were imagining is nowhere to be found.

There are at least three evidence of Jesus’ resurrection in this short passage. First is the heavy stone. Who removed the stone? See Matthew 27:62-66 for the precautions the Jewish leaders took to secure the tomb. Second is the empty tomb. With the soldiers guarding the tomb, no one would have dared to come there to steal Jesus’ body, not least, the fearful and discouraged disciples. See the third in vs.6-7.

Peter and John did not expect or understand physical resurrection, but they could not deny the evidence. The resurrection of Christ is real and a historical fact, but to understand it, we must study and understand our bible very well (v.9).

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

1. Father of spirits, whose divine control
Doth bind the soul and body into one;
Thou wilt restore this body now undone;
For once it was the mansion of a soul,
Where dwelt the glowing wisdom of Thy Son.

2. Thou, maker of the body, dost ordain
That this Thine image, molded by Thy will,
Our every hope in glory shall fulfill;
So, till the body Thou dost build again,
Thou wilt preserve the spirit freed from ill.

3.In that blest region shall this spirit dwell
Where flowers undying bloom on every side:
For lo, we trust Thy Word, O Crucified,
When in Thy triumph over death and hell,
The thief forgiven took Thee for his guide.

4. Our brother goeth by the shining way,
That ever to the faithful open lies:
Lord, train Thy servant now in paradise,
And bless him in his fatherland, we pray,
Till Thou shalt bid his body to arise.

Closing Prayer
Dear Lord, open my eyes that I may understand your word and help me to always bear testimony to the truth.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 72:12
“For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper.”
