TODAY’S TOPIC: THE PEACE OFFERING
OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, I pray that you sanctify my spirit, soul and body as I read your word in Jesus name.
SCRIPTURE: LEVITICUS 3:1-17

Question(s) for Reflection
* Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
* Q5: Is there any warning for me to heed?
* Q8: Is there any other Biblical passage that can help me understand this passage better?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 31 May 2024 Outline:

The Peace offering is the third of the offerings in Leviticus. Unlike the burnt offering, the animal could be male or female, but it must be without defect (vs.1, 6). Our God deserves the best! There are different kinds of peace offering that can be presented to the Lord (7:11). It could be for thanksgiving (7:12), for the fulfilment of a vow or voluntary offering (7:16).

Unlike most sacrifices, the peace offering was meant to be eaten by the worshipper, only a portion of the animal (fats, kidney, cover of the liver) or grain brought to the altar was burnt (vs.3-5, 9-11). The rest was given back to the worshipper (7:15-16). This was then eaten before God in fellowship with others. What lesson is in this for us?

The peace offering is a picture of the fellowship that we share with one another as believers because Christ brought us peace (Colossians 1:20; Ephesians 2:14). It also foreshadows the Lord’s Supper (Luke 22:15). We should, however, take note of the prohibition in v.17 (cf. 7:23-27). This is similar to the instruction about the Lord’s Supper (1 Corinthians 11:27-29).

Closing Prayer
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for opening the way of perfect peace and fellowship with God for us through your death and resurrection.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Deuteronomy 31:8
“And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”
