TODAY’S TOPIC: THE WORLD CONDEMNED

Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, I request that you help me to encounter you as I meditate on your word.

SCRIPTURE: Romans 3:9-20

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Q 7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 6 May 2023

The passage addresses man’s condemnation and the revelation of the wrath of God. It sums up the ultimate reason why all men need the righteousness of the gospel. The Jews are not better than the Gentiles because we are all ‘under sin’ (v.9). To be ‘under sin’ is to live under its authority and act in its sphere. Sin is mainly a condition of rebellion against God. Being ‘under sin’ results in a ruined relationship with God (vs.10-18) and with people (vs.13-14), and shows in our actions (vs.15-18).

Therefore, we are accountable to bear the consequences of our guilt. Although men may sense a spiritual vacuum, or believe in the existence of a Supreme Being, aspirations to know God are dead. Being under the power of sin means that we do not just sin occasionally, we are subjugated to everything that goes with sin. We are under guilt, condemnation, sin’s power, and its final destiny – hell. God has therefore been just, and our damnation is deserved and right.

Just As I Am With One Plea
1. Just as I am—without one plea,
But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee—
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

2. Just as I am—and waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot,
To Thee whose blood can cleanse each spot—
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

3. Just as I am—though tossed about
With many a conflict, many a doubt,
Fightings and fears within, without—
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

4. Just as I am—poor, wretched, blind;
Sight, riches, healing of the mind,
Yea, all I need in Thee to find—
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

5. Just as I am—Thou wilt receive,
Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
Because Thy promise I believe—
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

6. Just as I am—Thy love unknown
Hath broken every barrier down;
Now, to be Thine, yea, Thine alone—
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Closing Prayer
Lord, your verdict on sin is real. Only in you is my freedom. I silence my voice and submit to you.
