In this account of king David’s mighty men and their exploits, we see both the role of dedication and team spirit. King David certainly had a large army of thousands of soldiers but the thirty–seven mentioned here seemed to perform extraordinarily in their various contributions to the success of David their king and the entire army of Israel.
In this passage, we recognize the following: Record–keeping is very important in the Bible. Do you keep a daily journal of your encounter with God? Everyone in the Lord’s army has a role to play. There is no doubt that the Holy Spirit empowered these men to perform as in vv.8–16. Do you know your role in the body of Christ?
Total dedication and selfless service singled these mighty men out for honour and extraordinary recognition by the king. In the same way every faith stewardship will be duly honoured by the Lord, (see Matthew 25:21,23). David’s total dedication to God in his assignment caused God to bless him with dedicated servants ─ life is sowing and reaping.
Our ability and giftings are unique but when fully surrendered to the Holy Spirit, mighty miracles happen to bring glory to God and blessing to our generation. Think of the three men who risked their lives to bring water to David from the well in Bethlehem.

• And so: The clear evidence of genuine Christian life is not what we know but how we live in this sinful world.
Prayer:
• Keep me true Lord Jesus, keep me true.
There’s race that I must run,
There are victories to be won.
Give me power every hour to be true.
• Pray that the political leaders will act and conduct themselves in a manner that promotes peace and unity of their country.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with Isaiah 43:5
