Toda Devotional; Scripture Union Daily Guide for Today Wednesday 24th February 2021. May you be blessed as you read on.

TOPIC: WHOLEHEARTED THANKSGIVING

OPENING PRAYER: my eyes O Lord that I might behold wondrous things from your word in Jesus name.

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 138:1-8

1I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; before the “gods” I will sing your praise. 2I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise your name for your unfailing love and your faithfulness, for you have so exalted your solemn decree that it surpasses your fame. 3When I called, you answered me; you greatly emboldened me. 4May all the kings of the earth praise you, Lord, when they hear what you have decreed. 5May they sing of the ways of the Lord, for the glory of the Lordis great. 6Though the Lordis exalted, he looks kindly on the lowly; though lofty, he sees them from afar. 7Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me. 8The Lordwill vindicate me; your love, Lord, endures forever? do not abandon the works of your hands.

Question(s) for Reflection:
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any command for me to obey?

TODAY’S OUTLINE: SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE DEVOTIONAL 24TH FEBRUARY 2021

There is nothing half-hearted about David’s thanksgiving here. He is determined to give thanks to God with all his heart, and not only before men but before whatever other gods they choose to worship (v.1)! His reasons are significant, because they apply to us today as well. They include God’s steadfast love and faithfulness (v.2), God’s answer to his prayers (v.3). See others in vs.6-8. We read something very significant about how God honours both His name and His word in v.2.

If God Himself has such an exulted view of both, what should be our attitude to them? God’s purpose for Israel was that through them all the nations of the earth would be blessed; and v.4 speaks of all the kings of the earth giving thanks to God. Our own calling is to take the good news of Jesus to all nations. This is surely His purpose, which He would very much love to fulfil and to make perfect in each one of us, (v.8).

Practice/Word Application:
• Thought: The third commandment is about not taking God’s name in vain. In what ways do we break this commandment today?

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer:
• God, I thank you because you will fulfil your purpose for me because your love endures forever.
• Pray for an understanding of God,s priorities for these times.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with 2 Thessalonians 3:3 – But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

Bible Reading: Ex. 19-20; 1 Thess. 5
