SCRIPTURE UNION SU DAILY GUIDE FOR WEDNESDAY 14TH JULY 2021

TOPIC: ASK FOR TOMORROW FROM GOD

OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, grant me understanding and illumination as I ponder on your word in Jesus name.

Scripture: Proverbs 27:1-13

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any warning for me to heed?

Scripture Union SU Daily Guide 14 July 2021

The writer warns against boasting about tomorrow for we may never reach it. Indeed, tomorrow belongs to God and if we are making plans, we do so on condition that God allows it. God does not stop us from planning but rather that we acknowledge Him in our planning. Tomorrow may have different situations that we may deal with only through God’s grace (James 4:13-16). V.2 addresses how we assess ourselves. Character is shown as we relate to others. Self-praise is no recommendation.

The other verses address other emotions like jealousy and anger. How do you understand v.6? Rebuke from a friend who has our best interest at heart may sometimes be unpleasant, but it is for our good and in the end will bring us joy. V.8 compares people who do not follow their God with a bird that has forgotten its nest! How is your current relationship with God? We are like wayward children who despise their father. One of the fruit of the spirit is self-control (Galatians 5:22).

This is the key to the control of all our emotions. When we allow our emotions to run wild, we become destructive agents who disappoint their God.

Practice/Word Application
• And so? We should think and act in a sober and godly manner always.

Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Dear God our Father, grant me self-control in whatever situation I find myself and the grace to always follow you.
• Pray that God will help you to have a deeper love for others, like Jesus who so loved us and gave His life for us.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with
Psalms 10-12; Acts 10:24-48
