TOPIC: RISE

Scripture Reading: JOHN 5: 1-15

Focus: “Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.” (John 5: 8)

That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today.

In our Focal Scripture, Jesus commanded the man at the pool of Bethesda to rise. That man had stayed on his bed at the pool of Bethesda for several years; he had been in his condition for thirty eight years; and the first thing that Jesus would have him do was for him to rise. Jesus demanded that the man should change his posture from being on the bed to rising from the bed. Jesus commanded the man to change the posture his condition gave him. He commanded the man to rise.

Friend, in 2024, God is commanding you to rise. Rise from every challenge that has kept you down. Rise from every low estate that sin kept you in. Rise from the hurts that you have been through. Rise from the negative experiences you went through in time past. Rise from the defeats you encountered in time past. Rise from the mindsets and attitudes that your challenges imputed to you. Rise to the occasion of your new season. Rise to the new demands that heaven is placing on you.

The condition of that man at the pool made him accustomed to lying down on his bed, and Jesus demanded that he should rise from the posture of his negative situation. In 2024, rise from every posture that your negative situations imputed on you. Rise from the bad attitudes you have imbibed because of what you went through. Rise from the negative dispositions that your sufferings gave to you. Rise from the posture of your past. Rise from the posture of your negative experiences.

It is an error to be entering a new season, and remain in the posture of the old season. It is an error to enter a new season and hold on to the negative mindsets that came with the old season. If truly you are ready for the new, then El Roi demands that you leave behind the tokens of your yesterday. Leave behind the hate that your yesterday came with. Leave behind the dejection, depression, sinful living, etc. of your yesterday.

Remember, Jesus gave the command, but the man at the pool had to rise by himself. Make a commitment to rise from the posture of the past.

Declaration: In 2024, I rise; I break away from the posture of my past season/misfortunes, in Jesus’ name!
