THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
God calls me to find a Christ-centered community.
How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! – Psalm 133:1 (NIV)
In high school, I didn’t fully grasp how important it is to be a part of a Christ-centered community. I heard other students in my church’s youth ministry talk about the ways they were growing in their different Christian groups, but I just didn’t get it. My focus began to shift from finding people who would encourage my spiritual growth to simply finding more people to hang out with.
When the many superficial relationships I had developed fell apart after graduation, I realized my mistake. I had been searching for the wrong thing. College was the perfect opportunity to try again. Because God had drawn my attention to the superficiality of my high school relationships, I was more aware and better equipped to make deeper connections in college. I was truly ready to work on building a Christ-centered circle of friends. God directed me to my current group of friends, and I have been able to grow in my faith in tremendous ways. Now I understand the power of having people to keep us accountable, to encourage us, and to remind us of God’s love.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for giving us the opportunity to share your love with others and the opportunity to receive that love. Help us to find others who can encourage growth in our relationship with you. Amen.
