Jesus said in Matthew 28:18-19, “All authority in Heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore… (RSV). On this same authority. our Lord Jesus Christ empowers the church in our passage today. They “you in the passage is plural: and as such. Jesus addresses the body of His disciples (the church) here. He gives the Church the authority that He had earlier given to Peter in
Matthew 16:19. Bind and ‘release’ have to do with forbidding and permitting. In
verse 18, Jesus gives us authority over sin, sickness, demonic activities and all satanic oppression.

He gives us the authority to subdue and overcome. Jesus emphasises the need for agreement prayer among believers; the church must always come together to pray supporting one another in prayers. This does not write off personal prayers. Couples and even families must pray together always. The early church was in one accord: Praying together and handling issues together they achieved great success! Jesus has assured us of answers to our prayers when we come together to pray.

He also assured us of His presence with us when we come together in his name (vv. 19-20). If we would come together as one body in one faith to pray, there will be great change in our nation and the world. Let us today, like the early church, hold firm to this Divine mandate.

Prayer: Dear God, give me and all Your children the grace to exercise the authority which You have given us and to always come together in prayer so that we will receive from You.
