TOPIC: TAKE THE MATTER TO JESUS

TEXT: Matthew 17:14-21(KJV)
17:14. And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
17:15. Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
17:16. And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

17:17. Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
17:18. And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
17:19. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
17:20. And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
17:21. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Anglican Daily Fountain 16th December 2023 STUDY:

Today, a mother has a son with a difficult health situation. She makes weekly trips to the Teaching Hospital for the son’s medical care. She goes to great lengths to deny herself many pleasures in order to save up funds for his medical bills and to buy special foods that he needs. My conclusion is that the love of a parent for his or her child is great. They hurt when the child hurts; they cry sometimes when a child is in trouble. We can therefore understand the predicament of this father when he came to Jesus.

What was the condition of the son? He was an epileptic and had suffered terribly. He often fell into the fire and water. All these would certainly put him in danger of death constantly. This was not an enviable position for a father to be. Are you a parent with a child in a rather difficult situation? Does your child or relation or friend fall often into the moral, health, financial, psychological or spiritual ‘fire’?

Take the situation to Jesus. Note the steps this father took. (i) He came ‘kneeling.’ This is a position of humility. Come to Jesus, not with a sense of arrogance; come humbly. (ii) He told Jesus all about his son. Confess the situation as it is; do not embellish it. (iii) He pleaded for mercy. Do not come with a sense of merit; ask for mercy. Jesus will answer.

PRAYER: Lord, have mercy on me as I come unto you for divine healing!
