Anglican Daily Fountain 19th December 2023 (Devotional Today)
Welcome to Today’s Daily Fountain Devotional of the Anglican Church of Nigeria. Daily Fountain is a daily reading devotional for all Anglicans and Non-Anglicans to read, study, share and discuss the Word of God on a daily basis.
TOPIC: HIS ATTRIBUTES
TEXT: Isaiah 44:24-28(KJV)
44:24. Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;
44:25. That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;
44:26. That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:
44:27. That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers:
44:28. That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.
Anglican Daily Fountain 19th December 2023 STUDY:
We have a fantastic description of some attributes of God in this passage: He is our redeemer; He formed us from the womb; He made all things; He stretches out the heavens all alone; He spreads abroad the earth all by Himself (v.24); He frustrates the signs of babblers; makes diviners mad; turns wise men backward and makes their knowledge foolishness (v.25), etc. All these have implications for us.
No one should take God for granted. All that is said of Him above are true. For example, He turned the good and workable counsel of Ahithophel the Gilonite into foolishness when David prayed. Ahithophel, presumably refused to forgive David for what he did with Bathsheba, being her grandfather. He perhaps found a convenient excuse to pay David back in some way. However, he failed to countenance one attribute of God: His forgiveness. David confessed and truly repented, so God forgave him.
This made God stand by him again as before. Failure to reckon with God’s attributes can put us on His wrong side. Are you reckoning with His attributes? He is our redeemer, for example. Have you allowed Him to redeem your soul? Have you been battered and broken down? Hear again, one of His attributes:“Saying to Jerusalem, you shall be built”(v.26). He is able to rebuild you. Just let Him.
PRAYER: O Lord, give me the heart that will please you.
