Welcome to Today’s Daily Fountain Devotional of the Anglican Church of Nigeria. Daily Fountain is a daily reading devotional for all Anglicans and Non-Anglicans to read, study, share and discuss the Word of God on a daily basis.

TOPIC: DO NOT BE SPIRITUALLY BLIND AND DEAF

TEXT: Isaiah 42:18-25(KJV)
42:18. Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see.
42:19. Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the LORD’s servant?
42:20. Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not.
42:21. The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.

42:22. But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.
42:23. Who among you will give ear to this? who will hearken and hear for the time to come?
42:24. Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law.
42:25. Therefore he hath poured upon him the fury of his anger, and the strength of battle: and it hath set him on fire round about, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.

Anglican Daily Fountain 6th December 2023 STUDY:

Israel was to be God’s servant and a messenger to the world, but by their own freewill, they chose to be unfaithful to God. Therefore, God poured out His fury on them by giving them over to their enemies for punishment. By their failure, they became a nation without purity – blind and deaf to God’s word. Unfortunately, even with the flames of God’s judgment burning against them, they didn’t understand or repent. God’s people had God’s Word and the riches of His law and divine revelation, yet they ignored it.

Beloved, it is a fearful thing to ignore or disobey the Word of God. Some of us have ears that function like ornaments on the sides of our heads -we do not hear with them. God disciplines His erring children, and He will always do. Sometimes, the fiery trials He allows us pass through are meant to bring us to repentance and softness of heart. The more you resist, the more the fire will burn!

Is the fire of God’s correction burning away the sin and impurity in your life? Are you deaf and blind to spiritual reality? Jesus came to give sight and hearing to those who are spiritually blind and deaf but only those who know they are blind and deaf can be healed.

PRAYER: Father, forgive my unfaithfulness and deliver me from spiritual deafness and blindness, Amen.
