ANGLICAN DAILY FOUNTAIN 9 DECEMBER 2021 DEVOTIONAL
TOPIC: RESTORATION IN THE END TIME (II)
TEXT: Micah 4:6-13(NKJV)
6. ” In that day,” says the LORD, “I will assemble the lame, I will gather the outcast And those whom I have afflicted;
7. I will make the lame a remnant, And the outcast a strong nation; So the LORD will reign over them in Mount Zion From now on, even forever.
8. And you, O tower of the flock, The stronghold of the daughter of Zion, To you shall it come, Even the former dominion shall come, The kingdom of the daughter of Jerusalem.”
9. Now why do you cry aloud? [Is there] no king in your midst? Has your counselor perished? For pangs have seized you like a woman in labor.
10. Be in pain, and labor to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, Like a woman in birth pangs. For now you shall go forth from the city, You shall dwell in the field, And to Babylon you shall go. There you shall be delivered; There the LORD will redeem you From the hand of your enemies.
11. Now also many nations have gathered against you, Who say, “Let her be defiled, And let our eye look upon Zion.”
12. But they do not know the thoughts of the LORD, Nor do they understand His counsel; For He will gather them like sheaves to the threshing floor.
13. “Arise and thresh, O daughter of Zion; For I will make your horn iron, And I will make your hooves bronze; You shall beat in pieces many peoples; I will consecrate their gain to the LORD, And their substance to the Lord of the whole earth.”
Anglican Daily Fountain Today | STUDY:
Our reading today builds up on the message of restoration that the Lord is giving. Micah predicts that human kingship and all other forms of human leadership will one day cease as the Messiah takes over the reign of authority. In other words, what God is pointing out here clearly is that human leadership at all levels is temporary. Leaders should therefore make the most of the opportunity God has given them to impact people’s lives for His glory – knowing that the time will come when the privilege will be taken away.
There is the need for our leaders, both in the church and the society, to realise the truth and rise to their God-given responsibilities. We must each also pray for ourselves in our individual leadership capacities, for grace to be able to achieve the purpose for our leadership. Finally, Micah’s message here is a message for the future. When God reveals the future, His purpose goes beyond satisfying our curiosity.
He wants us to change our present behaviours because of what we know about the future. It has often been said that forever begins now. Therefore, a glimpse of God’s plan for His followers should motivate us to serve Him, no matter what the rest of the world is doing.
Prayer: Lord give me grace to make a distinction in my area of leadership from now on.
