Bible Verse of the Day November 7, 2026: Exodus 33:14
“And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.” (Exodus 33:14, KJV)
Saturday is a good day to slow down and receive. This short verse holds two promises that speak to anyone who is tired of carrying life alone.
Meaning of the Verse
God answers Moses with a promise of His own presence, and with the rest that comes from it.
“My presence shall go with thee”
Moses had asked, “Shew me thy way” and “consider that this nation is thy people” (verses 13). God did not give a map. He gave Himself. Having God with us matters more than knowing every step.
“And I will give thee rest”
This is not only a day off. It is rest for the soul: relief from the pressure to hold everything together. The word “give” shows that it is a gift, not something earned.
Context
Moses was leading a stubborn people through a wilderness, and the burden was heavy. He refused to move forward without God (verse 15). This verse is God’s reply: He will go, and Moses will not go alone.
Reflection Questions
- What am I carrying today that I was never meant to carry alone?
- Do I trust God’s presence more than my own planning?
- What would real rest look like for me this weekend?
How to Apply It Today
- Set one hour aside today with no work and no screens, and consciously rest in God’s company.
- Hand one specific worry to God by name.
- Let someone else help you with a task, and rest without guilt.
Short Prayer
Lord, thank You that Your presence goes with me. Give me rest today, in my body, my mind and my heart. Help me to trust You with what I cannot control. Amen.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does “My presence shall go with thee” mean?
It is God’s promise to accompany His people personally. For Christians, Jesus makes this promise even more direct: “I am with you alway” (Matthew 28:20).
Is resting a lack of faith?
No. Rest is part of God’s design. Choosing to rest is often an act of trust that He is able to run the world while we stop.
