Bible Verse of the Day October 31, 2026: Ephesians 2:8-9

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9, KJV)

Meaning of the Verse

This passage is one of the clearest summaries of the gospel. Salvation is a gift from God, received by faith and not earned by effort.

“By grace are ye saved”

Grace is undeserved favour. God did not wait for us to become good enough. He acted first.

“Through faith”

Faith is the open hand that receives the gift. It is trust in what Christ has done, not confidence in ourselves.

“Not of works, lest any man should boast”

Good deeds matter, but they are the fruit of salvation and not the price. Because it is a gift, no one has a reason to boast, and no one is too far gone to receive it.

Context

Verse 10 completes the thought: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works.” Grace saves us, and then it shapes how we live. October 31 is also Reformation Day, which many Protestant churches observe in remembrance of the 1517 call to return to the truth that we are saved by grace through faith.

How to Apply It Today

• Thank God for the gift of salvation, and ask Him to keep you from trying to earn His love.
• If guilt or performance pressure has been heavy, rest in the fact that grace is a gift.
• Share the good news of grace with someone who feels they have to be perfect.

Father, thank You for saving me by grace through faith. Help me to rest in what Jesus has done, and to live gratefully and generously because of it. Amen.
