CATHOLIC DAILY DEVOTIONAL 14TH MARCH 2022 MONDAY

TODAY’S TOPIC: HUMAN VERSUS DIVINE JUDGMENT

SCRIPTURE: Stop judging and you will not be judged. …Forgive and you will be forgiven. – Luke 6:36-37

Jesus’ command to avoid judging others is unfortunately one of the most misunderstood. It has regrettably been used as either an excuse for immoral behavior or an attempt to reduce the perception of a sin’s severity. While we are expected to judge others’ actions as either sinful or, hopefully, virtuous, we must ensure that we do not engage in human judgment: trying to dissuade someone’s propensity for redemption instead of his or her prospect for conversion.

While it would be improper—actually, uncharitable—to approve of someone’s sinful activity while we have the duty to guide others away from sin (see Luke 17:1-4), we are also expected to help others to know that God’s arms remain open to everyone seeking repentance and newness of life. During Lent, let us make recourse to the sacrament of penance, confessing our sins and seeking the Lord’s abiding forgiveness.

Lord Jesus Christ, give us the courage to reject sin and turn toward you daily.
– Mr. Justin McClain, OP
