CATHOLIC DAILY DEVOTIONAL TODAY 14TH FEBRUARY 2022
TODAY’S TOPIC: ENCOUNTERING TRIALS
SCRIPTURE: Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. – James 1:2-3
During the COVID-19 pandemic, my family lost less than some, more than others. We canceled long-awaited travel plans. We didn’t see loved ones for many months. My daughter started college on a campus that felt like a ghost town. If I could go back and prevent the pandemic, I would do it in an instant, but I cannot deny its unexpected blessings. Facing it together brought my family closer. It made us mindful of the ordinary beauty of plants, pets, twinkle lights and paper hearts hung in windows.
It wasn’t our first trial. It won’t be our last. If we open our hearts, however, the Lord may use our trials to teach us that meaning can come from suffering, light from darkness, and life from death. Hard times do test our faith, but they also teach us perseverance, gratitude and humility. They teach us the Way of the Cross.
Lord Jesus, help me to encounter my trials as you did.
