CATHOLIC DAILY DEVOTIONAL TODAY 8TH MARCH 2022
TODAY’S TOPIC: ‘IT SHALL NOT RETURN TO ME VOID…’
SCRIPTURE: So shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; It shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it. – Isaiah 55:11
This reading shows God’s deep desire to bring us to himself. God’s word is a term laden with meaning. It is one of the Church’s treasured terms for Christ, the second person of the Trinity. A Scripture professor of mine said, “Most of us use many words to say nothing—God speaks one word and says everything.”
The Word of God, coming from and returning to the Father, is obedient, humble, effective. In daily life, it may look messy. As Lent began, we saw Jesus hungry, thirsty, exhausted and tempted by Satan. Perhaps we’ve seen ourselves hungry, thirsty, exhausted and tempted. Is it possible we, too, can become humble, faithful and effective and return to the Father? Yes, for Christ makes it possible in the Holy Spirit.
This Lent let us look to you, dear God, that we may be radiant with joy.
