Scripture Union Daily Guide 16th February 2022 | Message

Notice the strict instructions in v.2, and the reason for the continuous closure of the East gate. This gate opens to the rising sun. Closing it makes the worship of the sun, one of Israel’s idolatrous practices, impossible. Our God does not share his glory with any man or idol. God chose Abraham and his descendants, the children of Israel, as the focus of his revelation. Through them, all the nations on the earth would be blessed (Genesis 12:1‐3). At that stage, foreigners were excluded from direct access to the temple (v.9).

But in Jesus Christ, Abraham’s blessing was extended to Gentiles (Galatians 3:28‐29). The priests were doing all the right things as we see in v.11. However, they were mixing it with idol worship, which God detests, (v.13). As a result, God promised that they would bear their punishment. I once went to witness to a traditional spiritual healer in his home. He boasted that church members were among his faithful clients. While we were yet speaking one of them arrived!

Do you know such people who go to church on Sunday but still consult idol worshippers and resort to the charms of the traditional medicine men in times of crisis? How are such people described in James 1:8? What problems in life do you have which is too big for Jesus Christ?

Practice/Word Application
So what? What do you do next when prayers seem to go unanswered? What lessons do we learn from Job 13:15 and Daniel 3:16‐18?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Dear Lord help me to always trust in you and in your all‐sufficient power at all times.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with
Luke 6:19; Exodus 37,38, Hebrews 10
