While the leaders of Israel put their trust in alliances that cannot save, prophet Isaiah makes it clear that God has a better source of confidence and hope for them. God’s provision of a sure foundation is greater than what anyone else can provide: ‘… behold, I lay in Zion a foundation, a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation…’ (28;16). All who trust in this provision will never be disappointed. While ‘hailstones and floods’- imagery used by the prophet, sweep away temporary shelters based on falsehood, those who trust in God will experience justice and fairness (v.17).
We have a lot to learn from the farmers. They know exactly when to sow particular crops, and how to tend them to reap a good harvest. They wait patiently for the crop to grow until the harvest time and use the right methods to process each crop. To get the right result, we must be careful to ‘listen’, ‘pay attention’ and ‘hear my (God’s) word’ and then respond in prompt obedience. Failing to do these will bring us increased hardship (v.22).
