SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE 27 MAY 2022 DEVOTIONAL
Topic: The Virtues of Forgiveness and Gratitude
Opening Prayer: Lord, let the light of your word shine into my life as I meditate on your word.
Scripture: Luke 17:1‐19
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Is there any command for me to obey?
What exactly is the Master saying in vs.1&2? Offences must come, but we must be careful not to be habitual objects of offence. Read vs.3‐4 and state in your notebook the virtue the Lord is trying to teach His disciples? Note also their request in v.5 and the Master’s response in v.6. In Ephesians 4:2 (NLT), we are admonished to “make allowance for each other’s faults”.
We certainly need faith to meet the stricter demands of the love Jesus exemplifies. For you to rebuke a brother as stated in v.3, be sure you are doing so in love and with the intent of restoration. From vs.7‐10, what in your own word is our Lord trying to inculcate in the disciples? Do you see sacrificial, cheerful service? What is your attitude to the assignments your Church or Fellowship gives you?
Vs.11‐19: the Master healed 10 lepers and only one (a Samaritan) returned to thank Him. How often we take God’s graces in our lives for granted! While God is not forcing us to thank Him for His blessings, we must note that gratitude begets more grace (Psalm 50:22‐23). Note also the faith and obedience exhibited by these lepers. They proceeded to show themselves to a priest while they were not yet healed. On the way the Master healed them. Faith in action!

• Ask the Lord to give you the virtue of forgiveness, cheerful sacrificial service and gratitude.

Judges 6:16; 2 Samuel 22‐24, Matthew 23
