Daily Guide 31 May 2022 | Scripture Union Devotional

Topic: Expectations and Faith

Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, I pray that you sanctify my spirit, soul and body as I read your word in Jesus name.

Scripture: Luke 18:31‐43

Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Until the very end, Jesus kept in focus the purpose of His coming to the earth. And here again, He tries to share this with His disciples. Unfortunately, they still did not understand Him. They were still thinking mainly of an earthly kingdom of political power (vs.31‐34; compare Matthew 20:20‐21).

Jesus was willing to undergo unfair trial, mockery, shame, beatings and ultimately death, to give us eternal life. How many times do we fail to listen to what He is saying because we have our own agenda or expectations? The blind man showed he trusted Jesus despite discouragements from those around. He refused to be shouted down. It was the man’s faith and confidence in Jesus Christ that healed him.

As we saw on Sunday, persistence is necessary when we make requests to God. This man was persistent. Also, he answered directly, the question Jesus asked him. Unlike many, he did not beat about the bush. How do you listen to Jesus and how do you approach Him? Are you discouraged by others around you or do you persist until you receive answer to your prayer?

Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Pray for God to help you believe Him and persist in your prayers to Him.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with
Psalms 33:12; 1 Kings 8, 9, Matthew 27
