Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 5 December 2023

King Hezekiah was in the prime of life (v.10) when he fell sick. Then God told him through prophet Isaiah to put his house in order because he would not recover from the illness but would die. Notice how the king responded (vs.2, 12-20), and what followed? God did not deny Hezekiah’s claims of faithfulness and wholehearted devotion. Following his prayers, God told prophet Isaiah to use an herb to treat the sick king (v.21). The healing that followed was more of God’s favour than reward. Read again and meditate on King Hezekiah’s song of praise (vs.10-20).

African families, nations and even churches often have bloody and bitter succession struggles following the death of famous or popular leaders, especially where wealth, influence and/or prestige are involved. In many cases, there is no time to prepare for death or to put our estate in order before we are too sick to do so. Life at best is very brief, and Jesus commands us to be ready for death at any time.

For Reflection
Further Reflection: Think of ways divine healing works together with human medicine, similar to Isaiah using medicinal figs to heal.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
Pray that God will help you to number your days so that you can apply your heart to wisdom.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with 2 Corinthians 9:8
