Read and Meditate on Today’s Scripture Union Daily Guide for Saturday 5th June 2022. May the Lord bless you through His Word, Amen!

Topic: Filled With The Holy Spirit

Opening Prayer: Let me know more of you today dear Lord as I meditate on your word.

Scripture: Acts 2:1‐13

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Jesus had told the disciples not to leave Jerusalem but wait for God’s gift of the Holy Spirit, who would come within few days (Acts 1:4‐5). They obeyed and continued in prayer (1:14). Suddenly the Spirit came while they were praying. How is the arrival of the Spirit described in vs.2‐4? God chose the day of Pentecost, a Jewish feast of First fruits which they observed annually to celebrate their harvest or ingathering (Leviticus 23:15).

What is the significance of people from around the world gathered in Jerusalem (v.5)? The Spirit enabled them to address so many diverse people in their own languages simultaneously. Jesus had commanded them to witness for Him from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth (1:8). From the first day of the Spirit’s outpouring, God enabled them to do this very thing.

The event aroused curiosity and some people tried to explain away this mighty miracle (v.13). This should not be our attitude; rather we should be grateful whenever God manifests His presence among us and join with others to worship Him.

Practice/Word Application
And so: To be an effective witness for Christ, you need to be filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts1:8). Are you filled with and controlled by Him?

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Lord Jesus, fill me with your Spirit today, granting me the boldness to witness to others about you, and to praise you all my life.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with
1 John 5:14; 1 Chronicles 16, 17; Psalms 55; Mark 4
