SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE 5TH JULY 2022 DEVOTIONAL
Topic: Alone with God
Opening Prayer: May the meditation of my heart be acceptable unto you, O Lord as I read from your word.
Scripture: Genesis 32:22‐32
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Have you ever wrestled with the like of Jacob in life? Even this supernatural being “could not overpower” him (v.25). Have you too had cause to “wrestle” with God, in prayer? Jesus calls us to ask and keep asking ?.., to hold on to Him in faith and not give up (Luke 18:1‐8). We see here the mercy of God. Jacob had his name changed.
That was a spiritual change of his nature – a foundational blessing that far exceeds all others. Jacob had a definite encounter and he kept the memorial of it. How may we keep memorials of our special encounters with God? However, and wherever, seek to be alone with God at your own Peniel. But unlike Jacob, make yours a regular and frequent meeting.
Note how his challenges led him to a glorious encounter with God. We can also allow our trials to take us to God rather than into the waiting arms of Satan. For then, we will be worse off no matter the deceitful transient relief.
Practice/Word Application
So: Get shut in with God when afraid, when besieged by life’s challenges.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
• When I am afraid, dear Lord, please lead me to the Rock that is higher than I.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with
Jeremiah 31:3; 2 Kings 7, 8
