DAILY REFLECTIONS 11 APRIL 2022, MONDAY

Topic: Lazarus Evangelizing

Scripture: …believing in Jesus because of him. John 12:11

Jesus is in Bethany where his dear friends have prepared a dinner for him. The Gospel notes Martha serving, while her sister Mary is doting on Jesus. But it’s their brother Lazarus who’s driving the story. Jesus came to Bethany, “where Lazarus was,” emphasizing—twice—the now locally famous Lazarus. The large crowd gathered not only to see Jesus, we are told, but also Lazarus, the one whom Jesus “had raised from the dead.”

Perhaps most important of all, we learn that the chief priests are also plotting to kill Lazarus because so many Jews believed in Jesus “because of him.” It’s clear that Lazarus’ witness is profound and deeper than one experience. He had new life. He had been transformed, rekindled, invigorated, both physically and spiritually. Lazarus’ whole being evangelized and proclaimed that Jesus is Lord.

What about me? Do I proclaim with my mere presence that God is number one in my life?
