Read Today’s DCLM Daily Manna Devotional for Sunday 6th June 2021…

TOPIC: OUR FULL-ORBED TEACHER

BIBLE TEXT: MARK 8:1-3

1 In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them,

2 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:

3 And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.

Key Verse: “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat” (Mark 8:2).

Today’s Outline: DCLM Daily Manna 6 June 2021 Devotional

Many teachers of the word of God reveal only one side of themselves in ministry. They draw the right conclusions in line with the objectives of heaven as they open from page to page of the Holy Bible. The Holy Spirit helps these evangelists to allow the Word fall on fertile ground for new entrants into heaven. Backsliders too are restored to the narrow path whilst saints are encouraged to continue following the Lord. What next?

In our Bible reading today, our Lord Jesus Christ demonstrates what should also be the priority of preachers. To be a full-orbed pastor, the man of God must see to the other side of the flock. He must, after giving them sound scriptural doctrine, also give them the food of the body. Our Lord had been presenting spiritual manna to the great multitude for three days. Now they had “nothing to eat”. Moved with compassion, the Lord declares that He cannot “send them away fasting to their own houses…for divers of them came from far.”

Christ is a compassionate Saviour who attends to the spiritual and physical needs of men. The way He attended to the needs of the large crowd after feeding them with the Word, teaches the cardinal lesson that the all-round preacher is the one who, while deeply interested in the spiritual welfare of his flock, also shows concern for their material needs. Like Christ, the teacher of the Word must run a balanced ministry. As he evangelises, he must also look after the converts physically.

Our Lord visited Peter’s family and attended to a health condition there. After His resurrection, He fed the disciples at a time they caught nothing and were hungry. He clothed a possessed man after healing him. When there was no wine at a marriage, He supplied it. That is the totality of the ministry work.

Thought for Today: Serve balanced spiritual diet; meet material needs of the people.
