Words are powerful. They are like seeds – when we believe them, when we dwell on them, they’ll take root. They can grow and become what we’re saying.
Think of the heroes of faith; they didn’t have a Bible like we do today. They didn’t have promises in writing like we can stand on. They didn’t know how it was going to turn out, yet they chose to believe. They fought giants, overcame enemies, withstood hardships, endured ridicule. They made it without all the conveniences that we’re blessed with. Imagine what you and I can do. This is our day to set new standards, to take new ground.

His father always encouraged him to preach, but Joel would politely decline time and time again until one day in October 1999 when his father was admitted to the hospital with kidney complications. Joel finally agreed to preach the next Sunday, and his father passed the following week. Joel’s first sermon was the last his father ever heard. Joel and his wife, Victoria, were suddenly thrust into full-time leadership of Lakewood Church.
