Today’s Topic: Through the Valleys
Scripture: I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14, ESV

In Psalm 23, David said, “I walk through the darkest valley.” He didn’t say, “I set up camp in the valley and stay there.” He said, in effect, “The valley is not my home; the throne is. I don’t settle in the middle because I’m a shepherd boy and don’t have the skills, the connections, or the training to become king. I don’t give up when it’s hard, when life’s not fair, when it’s taking a long time. I have faith for the middle.”

God is not dependent on what you don’t have. When He breathed His life into you, He equipped you with everything you need. When things come against you, and you’re tempted to settle, you have to dig your heels in and say as David said, “God is the God of the middle. Even though I may not understand it, I’m not going to get stuck in the valley. I’m going to keep moving forward, knowing that God is in control and the difficulties are just steps on the way to the prize of the upward call of God in my life.”

Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You that You are not just the God of the start of my journey, not just the God of my finish, but You are also the God of the middle. Thank You that You are here to help me through the valleys. I declare that no difficulty will keep me from Your upward call. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

TODAY’S INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE: The Scripture says, “Take every thought captive that goes against what God says.” Get a picture of that. When a negative thought comes—fear, worry, doubt—you can’t be passive or complacent. “I wish that wasn’t here. That’s so discouraging.” No, you have to arrest that thought. It’s an intruder. It has no right to stay. “Take it captive.” That indicates force, aggression, being on the offensive. The Scripture could have said, “Just don’t think it; don’t pay it attention.” But God was showing us how important it is to be proactive. If we’re going to have a sound mind, it’s not going to happen automatically. We’re going to have to start locking up some things. The apostle Paul said, “Give no place to the enemy.” Are there some intruders in your mind that you’re allowing to stay? Are you giving place to negative, discouraging thoughts?
