Today’s Topic: Still Trying to Please People?
Scripture: Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. – Galatians 1:10, NIV

Today’s Word
You can’t reach your destiny feeling responsible to keep other people happy. Your time is too valuable to go around trying to figure out how you can please everyone. I know people who spend more time worried about what people think about them than they do focusing on their own dreams, their own goals. It’s great to get free from addictions or depression or sickness, but one of the greatest freedoms is when you get free from trying to please people.

People are quick to tell you how to run your life. It’s good to listen to wise counsel, but other people don’t know what God put in you—the dreams, the desires, the calling. You have to be bold to follow what’s in your heart. You can’t worry about what other people think, because people will try to keep you in their box, in what they think you should be. If someone gets upset because you won’t take their advice, that’s their problem. If you live by the opinion of others, you’ll never become who you were created to be.

Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You that I can come to You for all the approval and love that I need to live securely. Help me to recognize when others are trying to make me feel responsible for keeping them happy and meeting their expectations. I will listen respectfully to others but not be a people pleaser. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

TODAY’S INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE: Pay attention to what you’re thinking, especially the repetitive thoughts. Do they line up with who God says you are: mighty hero, talented, valuable, forgiven, masterpiece? Is what you’re meditating on positive, hopeful, building pathways that you want to go down? Or are those neurons working against you, building roads that you don’t want to travel? Maybe you need to rewire your brain.

Change those negative patterns that are pulling you down. Don’t go the next thirty years stuck in a mental rut. You’re in charge of your command center. You get to choose what you think about. Get up in the morning and set your mind for victory. All through the day, meditate on what God says about you. Get on the right algorithm, one that draws in the favor and goodness of God. God is going to help you rewire your brain.

You have to learn to receive God’s mercy. The enemy would love for you to live feeling condemned. He’ll remind you of all the times you haven’t measured up. It may not be something big, but even small things: you didn’t spend enough time with your children last week, you should have worked out, you were late to school, you got mad at your neighbor. There’s always some reason to feel bad about who you are. If you give in to those lies, then you’ll go through life feeling wrong on the inside. I’ve found that most people accept condemnation more easily than they accept mercy. They believe the lies from the accuser more than they believe what God says: they’re forgiven, they’re redeemed, they’re made worthy.
