Today’s Topic: Do You Really Need It?
Scripture: The LORD said to Gideon, “You have too many men. I cannot deliver Midian into their hands, or Israel would boast against me, ‘My own strength has saved me.’”
Judges 7:2, NIV

Today’s Word
At the start, Gideon had only 32,000 Israelite men to fight an army of 185,000 Midianites. But God told Gideon to reduce the number down to 10,000, and then down to just 300. It looked impossible. It didn’t make any sense. But Gideon had God’s repeated promise that He would be with him and he would defeat the Midianites as if he was fighting against one man. Against all odds, that is exactly what happened. God was showing us that we don’t need everything we think we need.

God loves to take those who are underestimated, those whom others discount, and cause them to shine brightly, to make them powerful. You don’t need all those people to be for you. You don’t need to come from a certain family. You don’t need all the training. God has given you all you need. He breathed His favor on your life. You are strong. You are anointed. You are favored. You can affect change. You can defeat giants. You can accomplish dreams. Go with the strength you have, and God will do the rest.

Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You that when the obstacles in my way look bigger, stronger, and more powerful than I can handle, You turn what look like lacks into strengths. Thank You that You’re about to make things happen that I could never make happen. I believe You have given me everything I need. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

TODAY’S INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE: In Act 12, King Herod had Peter arrested and put in prison for sharing his faith. Herod already had the disciple James killed. When he saw that it pleased the people, it looked like Peter was next in line. He was in the dungeon, chained between two guards. He was going to be brought to trial the next day. This could be the last night of Peter’s life. Instead of complaining, “God, where are You? This is unfair.” He understood this principle: that God is our doorkeeper.

While Peter was asleep, in the middle of the night, an angel showed up. It’s significant that he was sleeping the night before he could lose his life. Peter had faith and trust that God was in control of his life. The angel had to wake him. The chains fell off his feet. The Scripture says, “The prison doors opened of their own accord.” People didn’t open them. Peter’s friends didn’t sneak in and open them. No guard, no staff. This was the Doorkeeper. God doing what only He can do, opening doors that no person can shut.

Sometimes, God closes doors because we’re believing too small. He can see the greatness in you. He knows what you’re capable of. He’s not going to let you settle for second best. He’ll shut a door that you wanted so badly. “This person was so good. She was so beautiful. He was tall, dark, and handsome.” But where God is taking you, they can’t go. God is not punishing you; He’s protecting you. If He let us have our way, we wouldn’t reach the fullness of our destiny. He loves you too much not to close doors.

We love it when He opens doors. We know that’s the hand of God, but the closed doors are just as important. He’s keeping you on the best plan for your life. He can see things we can’t see: the big picture. He’s already written every day of our life in His book. What may look good to us is really leading to a dead end. It would be a waste of time and energy. So, He’ll step in as your doorkeeper and close the door.
